Borderlands La Frontera The New Mestiza by Gloria Anzaldua
This reading talked a lot about the borders between Mexico and the United States. Obviously, the United States was colonized by the Anglo People, but, in the reading, the author says that the land was once Mexican and Indian and that it will be again. I think that it is true because now there is a vast population of Mexican people in the United States. However, I cannot say the same about the Indigenous Indians who once lived in the United States. "The Mexican children kick their soccer balls across and run after it, entering the United States." This quote holds many meanings. The cultural aspect of it would be the sport of soccer. Showing how Mexico has brought that culture to the United States. "The Tortilla Curtain" which divides a pueblo, a culture. The border has created a type of subculture because of the division of two cultures and people, a border culture. Borders are meant to define what is safe and unsafe, to distinguish us from them.
